Elana Marton serves as the Deputy Director and Counsel at the Council on Children and Families, where she has worked for the past 15 years. In this role, she facilitates and leads a number of cross-agency and cross-sector teams and initiatives, all focused on adopting holistic approaches to comprehensively supporting children and families. Elana also provides in-house legal research and counsel and serves as the Freedom of Information Officer for the Council.
Previously, Elana served as Associate Counsel to the Speaker of the New York State Assembly. She drafted and negotiated legislation on health and mental hygiene issues, including the “Children’s Mental Health Act of 2006” which has been the building block for inter-agency collaborations aimed at improving the emotional and social well-being of New York’s children and families. Before working in New York, Elana worked on child welfare, education and many other policy issues for the Nevada State Legislature, and worked as a researcher on federal, state and local government issues for the Connecticut Conference of Municipalities.
Elana holds a B.A. from Wesleyan University in Connecticut and a law degree from the University of Connecticut School of Law.
