The New York State Council on Children and Families is pleased to announce the release of the ninth installment in its Developmentally Appropriate Practice Brief series: Screen Time. Developed in partnership with the New York State Education Department (NYSED) Office of Early Learning, the New York Association for the Education of Young Children (NYAEYC), the City University of New York (CUNY) Professional Development Institute (PDI), and the New York State Digital and Media Services Center, this brief provided science-based guidance and balanced strategies to help early childhood professionals, parents, and caregivers thoughtfully navigate the role of digital media and devices in young children’s development.
The brief emphasizes the importance of keeping relationships, play, and real-world experiences at the center of children’s lives while supporting parents, caregivers, educators, and policymakers in making informed decisions about screen time and healthy development.
